With greater attention to early intervention, more schools now offer preschool for some or all students. Research is clear that preschool programs that include certain pre-literacy and pre-numeracy instruction set up students for success in kindergarten and beyond. Nonetheless, there are limited preschool assessments that can help teachers identify preschool students' entry skills as well as gains made during preschool. Illuminate Education publishes the FastBridge earlyMath and earlyReading assessments for kindergarten and grade 1 and offers a lab version for preschool. In order to identify which subtests are the best predictors of later success, The Kansas Technical Assistance Support Network partnered with researchers from FastBridge to conduct a year-long validation study of preschool versions of earlyMath and earlyReading. This session will provide details about the study design, sample, analysis, and results. Participants will learn which FastBridge earlyMath and earlyReading subtests are recommended for triannual universal preschool screening.
